Founded by the Franciscan Friars and Sisters, Assumption School shares a full town block with Assumption Church, the Franciscan Friary, and the Hayes Parish Center. The original school building was opened in 1938 and a new wing added in 1963. There are 16 classrooms, an auditorium/gym for physical education and performing arts, a full cafeteria, art room and computer room. Most rooms are wired for Internet access. September, 2000 saw the opening of a new pre-kindergarten facility on the first floor of the renovated Hayes Center.

Assumption offers:

• an academically based pre-kindergarten program, including Spanish language and creative movement;
• sacramental preparation;
• Science Stars for high achieving students;
• federal and state programs (Title I, Compensatory Education, Supplementary Instruction, Speech Correction and English as a Second Language)

Religious Education, Science, Visual and Performing Arts, Computer Education, Mathematics, Social Studies, Spanish, Health, Language Arts, Reading, Physical Education and Family Life Education.

The heart of the educational program is the religious education of Assumption's children. All students participate in the religious services and celebrations that enliven the spiritual life of the school. Moral values and ethical standards of conduct infuse all areas of school life
Assumption School provides a caring, nurturing environment in which students can learn and teachers can teach; this produces graduates who are accepted into High Schools of their choice. In the year 2000, 100% of our eighth graders were accepted into Catholic High Schools. We welcome students of all races, colors, national and ethnic origins. Assumption School is accredited by the Archdiocese of Newark and is in the final phase of accreditation by the Middle States Association. The school also holds membership in the National Catholic Education Association.
